I think that Lise London cannot be understood if one also does not understand what communism is and what having an absolutely unconditional faith in communism is.1 Lise London is a heroic woman. She is the one who, during the Occupation, got up on the counter in a store at the corner of the rue Daguerre and the avenue de la Porte-d’Orléans, and launched an appeal to all the women of France, telling them that they must resist and help their husbands to resist in every possible manner. Incidentally, it was an organized demonstration: they sang “la Marseillaise,” and there were FTP there to defend Lise London....
